The persistent marine layer fog—especially during the "June gloom" pattern from late spring into early summer—keeps humidity high and slows surface drying on flatwork. A concrete driveway that would cure to a hard, trowel-ready surface in the Central Valley in 4–6 hours may take 2 hours just to lose its bleed water in Monterey's damp air. Bleed water is the thin layer of water that rises to the surface as concrete sets.
